knitted freelight

Freelight is a play between the word freeze and lighting. The idea is to freeze (stiffen) a soft material into a specific shape and create a hard shell.

In this case the result is a series of lamps based on large meshed knitting. It is not the knitted shape, but what you bring into the knitted shape before stiffening it, that makes the shape exciting. The lamps can also change shape, if you soak them in water to soften and afterwards stiffen them again. In this way, the lighting is not limited to a certain constant shape, but can change appearance depending on what the knitted shape is stiffened on to. The project has so far become a series of seven lamps in various colours, sizes and shapes.
